Playing the guitar is something that many of us aspire to do. Playing an instrument can be a great way to express yourself, and it 's also just plain fun! However, there are some common mistakes that people make when playing the guitar which lead to tuning problems or even injury. This article will cover 10 mistakes that you should avoid in order to get more out of your next practice session.

Mistake #01: Not tuning your guitar

One of the most common mistakes that people make when playing the guitar is not tuning it properly. If your strings are out of tune, you 'll find it difficult to play chords or melodies correctly. You may also experience some pain in your hands and fingers due to the extra effort required to hold down the strings. Even tuning once a week can keep your guitar sounding great and make it easier to play!

Mistake #02: Keeping your guitar in an extremely cold or hot environment

Extremely low or high temperatures, such as those found on winter days or summer nights, will cause steel-string guitars to go out of tune more quickly. You should avoid leaving your guitar in the trunk of a car on cold days or next to an air conditioning vent. Even keeping it inside where there is a large difference between indoor and outdoor temperatures will cause tuning issues.

Mistake #03: Not storing your guitar properly when you aren 't playing it

In order to help keep your guitar from going out of tune, you should look into storage options which will keep it at a consistent temperature and humidity level. You can purchase guitar cases or bags designed for this purpose; however some people use other objects like boxes or cabinets to store their guitars in between practice sessions.

Mistake #04: Not tuning your strings after transport

When tuning before playing, you should always tune your strings after transport. This is because the tuning of your guitar may be changed slightly after it has been moved, even if only for a short distance. Transporting your guitar in a case or bag will help to minimize this problem.

Mistake #05: Playing with worn-out strings

Worn-out strings can cause tuning issues, reduce the quality of your sound and increase the amount of pain you experience when playing. If it 's difficult to tune your guitar or if there are any buzzing sounds coming from it while you play, chances are that the strings need to be replaced. You should consider having one set spare for this purpose in case they break during a performance.

Mistake #06: Failing to use a capo

A capo is a device which clamps onto the neck of your guitar and shortens the strings, allowing you to play songs in different keys. This can be very helpful when you want to play a song but don 't know the chords for it or if you want to make the song sound a bit different. However, some people don 't use a capo because they 're not familiar with how to use it or they find it too difficult to attach.

Mistake #07: Playing without proper technique

Improper guitar playing technique can lead to tuning problems, pain in your hands and fingers, and even injuries. You should make sure to learn the proper way to hold and use your guitar before you start playing. There are plenty of instructional materials available online or in bookstores which can teach you the basics of good technique.

Mistake #08: Not using a metronome

A metronome is a tool that helps you keep time when you 're playing music. It produces a clicking sound which you can use as a guide to help you play rhythms correctly. Many people don 't use a metronome because they find it difficult to keep time or they don 't have one available. However, this is a mistake because using a metronome can help you improve your timing and make your playing sound more professional.

Mistake #09: Not tuning your guitar yourself

Professional musicians always tune their guitars themselves before performances instead of letting the sound engineer do it for them. Tuning is a skill that takes some time to master, but most people are able to learn how to do it with enough practice. You should also check whether or not tuning is included as part of your tuning equipment.

Mistake #10: Playing without a strap or stand

Playing guitar without either of these accessories can be very difficult and even dangerous, especially if you plan on performing for an extended amount of time. A guitar strap attaches to the headstock of your instrument while it 's around your neck so that you can play it while standing up. A guitar stand holds your instrument in a safe position so that you don 't have to hold onto it or set it down on the floor when you 're not playing.
