In this blog post, we will discuss a few tips and tricks for making amazing chord progressions. These are the essential elements to any song or progression that you want to be memorable and catchy. The best part is that these tips can be applied in many different genres of music!

The first tip is to utilize chord inversions. Chord inversions are the way that you can alter your chords to create different sounds and emotions within one progression. Using it correctly will allow for more creative freedom when writing music! It's also a great tool to accomplish harmonic tension, which leads us into our next point... * Harmonic Tension: We all love songs with catchy melodies, but sometimes this comes at the cost of not having enough "punch" or impact behind each note/chord. This is where adding some harmonic tension (or dissonance) allows you to take your songwriting abilities up another notch!

To get started simply try using notes outside of what would be considered "harmonically correct". For example, instead of playing a C Major chord that is made up of the notes C, E and G; try using F in place of your third note (E), giving you an "F Minor" chord. * Using Parallel Harmony: This tip can be pretty simple or very complex depending on how much detail you want to add! Here's what I mean... In most cases when writing music, we tend to repeat similar chords/progressions throughout our song. Let's say for example our chorus contains this progression: D - Em-G Once we establish it in the listener's ear once through repetition they will expect us to go there again during the next verse So then if we were going into another section with a different key center but wanted to keep that familiar feeling, we could simply use the same chords in a parallel fashion like this: A - Bm-D This will give the listener a sense of familiarity while still providing something new to keep them interested. * Chord Substitutions: Finally, chord substitutions are one of my favorite techniques for creating unique sounding progressions! To put it simply, chord substitution is when you replace one chord with another within the same key center. Doing this can completely change the sound and feel of your progression, sometimes giving it an entirely new flavor!

So there you have it! These are just a few basic tips to help get you started on your journey to creating amazing chord progressions. Remember these concepts can be applied in any style of music and can be tweaked to fit your specific needs. Now get out there and start writing some killer songs!
